Obituary

Robert Walker Paine, was born July 6, 1940 in Memphis, Tennessee, to the late Robert Nathaniel Paine and the late Stella Marie (Walker) Paine, and departed this life on August 30, 2022 at the age of 82 years, 1 month and 24 days. Robert married Dorothy Jean Myers on July 14, 1962 in Oxford, Mississippi

Robert is survived by his wife of 60 years, Jean Paine;

Two daughters: Lisa (Keith) Privett of Jonesboro, Arkansas;

Kim (Darrell) Morgan of Kennett, Missouri;

Four grandchildren: Kristen (Alex) Griffith of Memphis, Tennessee;

Tyson (Lindsay) Privett of Jonesboro, Arkansas;

Whitney (Jacob) Bradford of Kennett, Missouri;

Tatum (Marcus) Rigdon of Kennett, Missouri;

One step-granddaughter: Kelly (Zach) Midkiff;

Seven great-grandchildren: Banks, Hunt and Drew Griffith, Sutton Privett, Jackson and Kennedy Bradford, Blayke Rigdon, and one on the way.

After graduating from Kennett High School in 1958, he attended the University of Mississippi in Oxford, Mississippi, where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in business administration in 1963. Mr. Paine served six months of active duty in Fort Jackson, South Carolina. After active duty, he attended officer school in St. Louis, Missouri, and was promoted to Lieutenant. He then served as a member of the Missouri National Guard for an additional five and half years.

After returning to Kennett, Mr. Paine joined his parents in operating the family automotive parts business, Paine Auto Parts in Kennett, Portageville and Malden, Missouri and Rector, Arkansas. He was instrumental in opening two additional NAPA stores in Senath and Campbell, Missouri. When the family sold the business in 2002, it was recognized by Genuine Parts Company as being the second longest family owned NAPA dealer in the country.

Mr. Paine was very proud of his membership in Boy Scouts of America where he earned the distinguished honor of becoming an Eagle Scout. For many years, he was an active member of the Kennett Jaycees and the Kennett Lion's Club, as well as supporting his community in leadership roles in several organizations. Mr. Paine was also a life-long member of the First United Methodist Church in Kennett.

After his retirement in 1988, he devoted his time to the operation of his farm property, hunting, and fishing, and spending time with his grandchildren, and faithfully attended their activities. Most recently, he could be found at the family barn, as he was an avid horse lover and always preferred spending his time outdoors. Mr. Paine was a proud 20-year member of the Cross Country Trail Ride in Eminence, Missouri, and enjoyed numerous trail rides over the years with his horses, Drifter and Sue, including rides in Texas, Alabama and Arkansas.

Visitation will be 10:00 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. Saturday, September 3, 2022 at the McDaniel Funeral Home in Kennett. Graveside Services will be 11:00 a.m. at Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Kennett.  Reverend Jim Pemberton officiating. Honored to serve as pallbearers: Keith Privett, Darrell Morgan, Tyson Privett, Alex Griffith, Jacob Bradford, Marcus Rigdon and Zach Midkiff. Honorary Pallbearers: Alan Bradley, Randy Carter, Jeff Essary, Matt Harris, Bob Holder, Danny Langston, Thad Loggins, Baker Miles, Mike Strother, Terry Weaver, PJ Weidenbenner, Jerry Wilson, Todd Wilson.
