Obituary

Penny Droke McLarty, 74, of Hornersville, Missouri, bid her final farewell on November 5, 2023. Born on October 26, 1949, she was a force to be reckoned with, known far and wide for her boisterous spirit, big heart, and unfiltered honesty. She never held back her opinion and had a knack for telling it like it is. Whether you liked it or not, Penny always told you the truth. Penny was the queen of keeping it real!

Despite her straightforward nature, Penny had a heart of gold. She was always willing to give and help others. She would spend her last dime donating to charities or purchasing 30 rolls of wrapping paper or boxes of Girl Scout cookies just to help out the local community. Her caring nature was unmatched, and she was known as "Aunt Penny" to anyone that knew her. Everyone who knew her can attest to the birthday cards they consistently received year after year. She never missed, not even one.

One of Penny's most cherished roles in life was "Aunt." Aunt Penny doted on her small army of nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews. She was a source of strength and support for each of them. She was not just an aunt but a friend, a confidant, and a guiding light. Her walls were filled with countless photographs of her army. Nothing brought her greater joy than the faces of her nieces and nephews. To say she left an impact on their lives would be an understatement.

Aunt Penny is survived by her brothers, Steve Droke, Chris Droke, and Stan Droke. She is also survived by her children, James McLarty and Angela Goldberg, as well as her grandchild, Nathan McLarty. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Jim McLarty, her parents, Pete and Bette Droke, and her brother, Teddy Droke. All whom loved her dearly and will never forget her tenacity, grace, and undying love for them.

Penny's impact extended beyond the classroom walls, as she dedicated 30 years of her life to molding young minds as a teacher at Memphis City Schools. She had a knack for inspiring her students and leaving an indelible mark on their hearts.

Penny worshiped at the United Methodist  Church of Hornersville. She loved singing in the choir and cooking the yearly Thanksgiving dinner. It was a place of solace and community for her.

We invite you to celebrate Aunt Penny's life at the Hornersville Baptist Church on November 9, 2023. Visitation will begin at 12 pm, and a funeral service will follow at 2 pm. Let's honor Aunt Penny in a way that truly reflects her vibrant spirit!

Aunt Penny McLarty will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Her honesty, generosity, and unwavering spirit will forever be remembered
