Nancy Joann Scales Bartmess, daughter of the late Joe and Mary (Legan) Scales, was born on December 1, 1929, in Flint MI and departed this life on April 14, 2026. Joann married Norman Bartmess on June 27, 1952. He proceeded her in death February 4, 2004. She later married Robert "Bob" Winston, who proceeded her in death on June 15, 2015.

Joann is survived by three sons: Breck(Denise) Bartmess, Joe Pell(Erin) Bartmess, Dr. Keith(Michael Thompson) Bartmess; nine grandchildren Amy(Aaron) Wiegand, Dr.Samuel (Grace Cho) Bartmess, J.P(Alexandria) Bartmess, Leah (Gabe) Winter, Dr. Austin Bartmess, Christopher Bartmess, Cameron (Erin) Bartmess, Samantha and, Katy (Stephen) Foster; eight great grandchildren, Cora, Imogen, Ulysses, Atticus, Noah, Quinn, and Ben; nephews Thomas and Matt Scales.

At a young age her family moved to Kennett where she graduated from Kennett High School in 1947. She chose to be an elementary school teacher and attended State College in Cape Girardeau, where she obtained a teacher certificate in 1949. She returned to Kennett to teach and met Norman Bartmess. They raised three sons, Breck, Joe Pell, and Keith.

Joann was a member of First United Methodist Church of Kennett, where she taught Sunday School and was one of the first female Cub Scout Cubmasters of Pack 89. She also was an active member of P.E.O. Chapter HU of Kennett MO where she received the Golden Recognition for her 50+ years of service to the chapter. She was also an active member of the Kennett Music Club, Delta Fair Board, and Sew with Cotton. One of her passions earned lead her to complete the Master Gardner program.

She was prceeded in death by nephews William Gillespie(Deceased) and Robert Gillespie(Deceased)

Visitation will be 10:30 AM to 11:30 AM, Saturday, May 16, 2026, at McDaniel Funeral Home in Kennett, MO. Reverend Ron Wilcoxson officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Kennett, Mo. Honored to serve as pallbearers: J.P Bartmess, Dr. Austin Bartmess, Dr. Samuel Bartmess, Thomas Scales, Matt Scales, and Ward Billings. Honorary pallbearers, Amy Wiegand and Leah Winter.
