Lester Ray Hunter, age 77, was born September 9, 1946 in Senath (Bone Camp) and passed away peacefully June 28, 2024 at his home in Senath, Missouri. He was the son of the late Ernest and Ethel (Hunter) Davis. Lester leaves to cherish him in memory his five living siblings: Virginia Koster, Norma Whitehead, James Hunter, Lillian Kennedy, Marshall Hunter Five children: Lori (Jon) Anderson, Ryan (Jackie) Hunter, and Michael Hunter with wife Kathy Hunter (1969) and Katie Mitchell, Dustin (Hanna) Hunter, and two step-children Jonathan (DeDee) Binkard, Jessica (Mathew) Bennett with wife Lisa Cates (1992) His Grandchildren: Joseph (Whittney) Anderson, Jacob Anderson, Emily Anderson, Destiny (Michael) Smith, Katelyn Scarlett Hunter, Megan Hunter, Nate Hunter, Knolan Hunter, Willow Hunter, Lillianne Hunter, Hunter Mitchell, Mason Hunter, Hayden Hunter His Great-Grandchildren: Jackson Westmorlan, Sam, Halle, and Malia Anderson, Avery Smith The family would also like to recognize Tim Dinkins who was a close family friend and caregiver for the last several years as well as Cleve Norman who served as a father figure. He also leaves behind a host of half siblings, nieces, nephews, cousins and other close friends and family. He is preceded in death by his five siblings: Robert (Buddy) Hunter, Donald (Shot) Hunter, Norman (Tobe) Hunter, Bobby Jean Davis, and Bonnie June Davis.
Lester was a devoted and hardworking individual with many hobbies. He served as the lead ginner at 4-Way Gin for several years before becoming a police officer in the early 1980s. He served as a police officer in Senath for 35 years (1983-2018), and held the Chief of Police position for many of those years. He enjoyed deer and duck hunting, fishing, and running his hoop nets and trout lines at Lester Hunter's Landing. He also enjoyed working in his garden and canning. He especially enjoyed sports, specifically coaching and watching his kids and grandkids games. Lester enjoyed arrow head and marble hunting as well. He was very active and loved spending most of his time outdoors. He enjoyed cooking and BBQing with his family, and especially enjoyed the annual Dove Cookout on September 1st each year. After retiring, he spent his time watching the cotton modules and mowing yards.
Lester never met a stranger and everyone always had a story to tell about him. Everyone who knew him knew that it was his way or no way. His memory will remain in the hearts of his family, friends, and all those who were honored to have the privilege of knowing him.
Visitation for family will take place on July 2, 2024 from 9:00am - 10:00am at the McDaniel Funeral Home in Senath, Missouri. Public visitation will take place from 10:00am - 12:00pm. Funeral service will begin at 12:00pm. A Police Escorted Processional from McDaniel Funeral Home will travel through Senath to the Senath Cemetery where burial will follow. Honored to serve as pallbearers are: Eddie Adams, Ken Johnson, Stevie Odle, Chad Morgan, Matt Harris, Jonathon Binkard, Scotty Montgomery and Jason Causey. Honorary pallbearers are: Barry Long, CB Anderson, David Hanners, Terry Kelley, Tim Dinkins, Keith Morgan and Jeff Swindle.
