Obituary

Mr. Jim R. Bruce II passed away Monday, February 20, 2023 in Nashville, Tennessee at the age of 78 years. He was born on January 13, 1945 in Kennett, Missouri to the late Jim R. Bruce, Sr. and Anna (Martin) Bruce. Jim married Katherine Dunne on August 25, 1970 in Kennett, Missouri. He was preceded in death by an infant sister.

Jim was a practicing member of the Missouri Bar and Mississippi Bar for 45 years. Jim obtained a B.A. in English from Southeast Missouri State University in Cape Girardeau, Missouri in 1967 and an M.A. in English from Southeast Missouri State University in 1969. In 1977, he graduated from the University of Mississippi in Oxford, Mississippi with a J.D. in law.

Jim was also a 33 rd Degree Mason, and a member of the Kennett Masonic Lodge. He was also a member of the Kennett Presbyterian Church.

Jim is survived by his wife, Katherine of Kennett, Missouri. Two daughters, Claire (Erik) Benes of Bentonville, Arkansas and Jessica (Jeff) Hooten of Franklin, Tennessee. Two granddaughters, Magnolia Benes of Bentonville, Arkansas and Winnie Hooten of Franklin, Tennessee and by his sister, Janie (Terry) Goodwin of Kennett, Missouri. Niece, Nichole (David) Bradshaw of Kennett, Missouri and other nieces, nephews, relatives and many friends.

Visitation will be 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Saturday, February 25, 2023 at McDaniel Funeral Home in Kennett, Missouri. Funeral Services will be 12:00 p.m. Saturday, February 25,2023 at the McDaniel Chapel in Kennett. Pastor Steven Scherer officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Ridge Cemetery in Kennett, Missouri. Honored to serve as pallbearers are: Erik Benes, David Bradshaw, Josh Cantrell, Bryan Doyen, Gary Neighbors, John David Neighbors, Jeff Hooten and Corbin Tice. Honorary pallbearers are: Patrick Doyen, John Dunne, John Fisher, Terry Goodwin, Lanny Morgan and Jerry Neighbors.

McDaniel Funeral Service of Kennett will be in charge of the arrangements.
