Jennifer Sue Williams, known as Sue to her family and friends, passed away October 20, 2026 at the age of 82 years.

Sue was born on July 20, 1944, to Bennie Leonard Williams and Virginia Oakes Williams. She grew up in Poplar Bluff, Missouri, graduating from Poplar Bluff High School in 1962. She attended Memphis State University and later made her home in Kennett, Missouri.

Sue was a longtime advocate for people with disabilities throughout the Missouri Bootheel. Along with other individuals with disabilities, she founded the Bootheel Area Independent Living Services, a charitable nonprofit center for independent living (CIL). She served in  every office on the board many times over the 40 years. Miss Sue was the very embodiment of the independent living philosophy. She was also a Sunday school teacher at First United Methodist Church in Kennett. Helping others and being involved in her community were important parts of her life.

Sue was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Ben Williams.

Sue is survived by her nieces, Meredith Williams Kerner (Dave) and Alison Doerr (Jim), as well as her great nephews, great -great-niece, and great great nephew.

Sue also leaves behind many close friends and devoted caregivers who became an important part of her life. Her family is especially grateful for the friendship, kindness and loving care they provided.

She will be remembered for her dedication to others, the friendships she cherished, the lives she touched. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
