James L. "Jim" Vickery, age 84, passed away on June 20, 2024, at the Baptist Homes of Arcadia Valley in Ironton, Missouri. He was born to Charles Everett and Virgie Vickery in Ironton, Missouri, in January of 1940. Jim served our country in the Air Force, then studied at East Texas State University. In 1978, he graduated with a PhD in Secondary and Higher Education.

Jim married Karen (Clark) in July of 1968 and celebrated 51 years of marriage with her before her death from cancer in 2019. Jim is survived by one sister, Carol Rinehart, brothers in law, Gaylon Clark (Charlotte) and Dennis Clark (Debbie), sister in law, Pat Srum, several nieces, nephews, friends, and family.

Jim was a gifted storyteller and was often found in the middle of friends and family, everyone laughing at his antics and predicaments as a young man in Missouri, Germany, and Texas. He was an avid golfer and made many friends on the course. Jim loved to read history books and enjoyed watching old Westerns. He served others well, frequently cooking for a large crew or taking care of his neighbors. Jim was of the Christian faith and lived a simple but full life. He will be missed by us all.

Graveside services will be held at 1:00 PM on Monday, June 24, 2024, at Dunklin Memorial Gardens, Kennett, Missouri, with Shannon Miller officiating.
