George R Jordan was born on September 17, 1943, in Selmer, TN., to John and Alcie (George) Jordan. He departed this life on May 18, 2023, at the age of 79. He was preceded in death by a brother John Jordan and sister Carrie Lewis.
He is survived by his wife Irene of 52 years, in their home at Senath, sons David (Christie) Jordan of Jonesboro, AR. Mark (Jamie) Jordan of Paragould, AR. And three granddaughters: Hannah Jordan of Jonesboro, AR, Halle and Chandler Kate Jordan of Paragould, AR. He is also survived by a sister Sandra (Dennis) Green of Kennett, MO.
George loved his family and was an active member of the Senath Church of Christ working as an adult Bible teacher and participated in mission work in Guyana, South America.
George was an Army veteran (Spec 5) serving in Vietnam from 1967–1968. He served in a special unit assigned to different areas of the country working on building and electrical support. He attained the qualified marksmanship badges, the Soldier of the Cycle Award (an award given to the top soldier during each training cycle), and the letter of Commendation 22 nd Replacement Battalion.
After discharge from the Army, George worked as a lineman with the Pemiscot County Cooperative prior to moving on to work for Missouri Utilities in Senath. George was the manager of Missouri Utilities when they were bought by Union Electric. After the office closed in Senath, George finished out his career with Ameren at the Charleston, Mo office prior to retirement in 1998.
George enjoyed retirement and was a jack of all trades. He volunteered time mowing yards and working on AC systems for many years. He also enjoyed carpentry work and doing things for his granddaughters. He enjoyed helping people whenever he was able and tried to always put others before himself.
George was active in community affairs in Senath serving as a Boy Scout leader, President of the Senath Lions Club, the American Legion member of the VFW and served as a board member for the Pemiscot Dunklin Electric Cooperative and for the Dunklin County Public Water Supply District.
George was loved and will be missed by so many.
Services to be held on Saturday, May 20 th , 2023, at Senath Church of Christ. Visitation will be held from 10 to 11am and Funeral Service to follow at 11am. Interment following service will be at Dunklin Memorial Gardens in Kennett, MO.
