Retired Chief of Police for Arbyrd, Missouri Gary Don Jones, age 74, of Barling, Arkansas passed away May 19, 2021 at his residence in Barling. Born October 6, 1946 in Bone Camp, Missouri to the late Loyd Ula and Corrine M. (Beaird) Jones. He graduated from Arbyrd High School in 1964. He married Betty McMurtry in Piggott, Arkansas. Gary started his law enforcement career in 1985, graduating from the St. Charles County Law Enforcemnet academy. He served as police officer in Campbell and Cardwell, Missouri. He was elected Chief of Police for the City of Arbyrd and retired in 1998. He was also Fire Chief for Arbyrd during this time. He enjoyed and loved being a police officer.

He is survived by:

His wife Betty Jones of the home.

Daughter: Angela Jones Benson (Mikey) of Kennett, Missouri.

Brother: Paul Jones of Georgia.

Stepson: Donnie McMurtry (Patrice) of Tennessee.

Granddaughters: Dusti Jones and Jade Jones of Kennett.

Step grandsons: Justin and Joshua McMurtry of Tennessee

Trey and Elliott Benson of Kennett.

Step granddaughters: Dakota, Caitlen Benson and Sierra Robertson of Kennett.

Great grandchildren: Tristan Jones, Heather Jones, Kali Cupp and Kensie Benson of Kennett.

Also the mother of his children: Loretta Goddard.

Other relatives and many friends.

He was preceded in death by one son: Scotty Jones, one granddaughter: Heather Benson, two brothers: Billy Lloyd Jones and Kenneth Jones and two sisters: Mag Overman and Jewel Parkinson.

A memorial service will be held 2:00 PM Saturday, June 5, 2021 at McDaniel Chapel in Senath.
