Dortha Lou (Tomlinson) Goodman, passed away February 4, 2025 at the age of 99 at the Lutheran Home in Cape Girardeau with her sons Tim and Greg present and Ryan in transit.
Dot was born September 3, 1925, the youngest child of Enos Tomlinson and Vira Grisham of Magness, Independence County, Arkansas. She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother (Elmer Tomlinson), one sister (Mary Graves), one grandson (Dylan Goodman), and one great -granddaughter (Willa Goodman).
Dot started school in Magness, Arkansas. Following her family's move to Missouri on December 29, 1936, she attended school in Bragg City where she graduated from Bragg City High School at the age of 16 with the class of 1942. Following high school, she moved to St. Louis to attend the Missouri Business School until 1943. While attending business school, she passed the civil service exam which qualified her for a position at the Selective Service Board of Dunklin County where she worked until December 1945. Of her 33 working years, she was most proud of her service during World War II for which she received a commendation for her patriotic services from President Harry S. Truman.
Dot married Arvin Goodman on June 30, 1949, in the home that Arvin built himself at 711 Lester Street and where they lived together for 63 years. She is survived by her three sons and their spouses-- Arvin Ryan Goodman and Patricia Amsler, Timothy Clark Goodman and Cathy Goodman, Gregory Lynn Goodman and Lynda Wayne: Five grandchildren Nathaniel Curry Amsler Goodman and Marisa Pierce, Miles Franscisco Amsler Goodman, Malerie Phillips (Goodman) Essner and Brent Essner, Spencer Phillips Goodman and Paige (Foeste) Goodman, Maxim Wayne Goodman and Sarah Oechsle: and six great grandchildren--Brendan Essner, Maebry Essner, Greta Rose Goodman, Dax Goodman, Matthew Pierce and Carson Pierce.
Memorial Service will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, April 26, 2025 at Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Kennett with Pastor Steven Scherer officiating.
Memorials may be made to Bootheel Area Independent Living Services (BAILS) 719 Teaco Rd. Kennett, MO. 63857
McDaniel Funeral Service of Kennett will be in charge of the arrangements.
