Obituary

Donald "Don" Wayne Henson, 89, passed away on March 1, 2021 in St. Louis, MO.  He was born on September 3, 1931 near Hornersville, MO, descended from the Henson, Hanners, Pender and Christian families. He was the son of the late William Harrison Henson and Beulah Lorene Pender.  He was the brother of the late Winfred Bond Henson and the late Betty Jo Henson Tidwell.

Don graduated from Hornersville High School in 1950. After high school, he joined the Air Force and served during the Korean War. After the military, he worked different jobs throughout the country. While working for the Illinois terminal Railroad he settled in St. Louis, MO.  Here he met his wife, Guyneth Marie Andersen.  They married on April 30, 1960 and lived in Granite City, IL for 10 years before settling in Glen Carbon, IL.   After working with the railroad, he went to work for General Motors for over 25 years before he retired.

After retirement, Don and Guyneth moved to Paragould, Arkansas. While there, he volunteered with Meals on Wheels and they were both active in their church and the local American Legion.  Don was an avid sports fan, following the Cardinals and University of Missouri athletics.  He was an avid reader.  His favorites were Louis Lamour and John Sandford.  When he wasn't reading, he could often be found watching westerns and outdoor living shows.  Don and Guyneth were married for 54 years.  After Guyneth's death in 2014, Don resided in St. Louis with family.

Don is survived by his five children, Kathy Mowery and her husband Timothy Mowery, David Henson, Mark Henson and wife Heather Coffie-Henson, Janis Henson and Kimberly Fitzgerald and her husband Andrew Fitzgerald. He has six grandchildren Robert Schlegel, Michael Henson, Autumn Fitzgerald, Christopher Fitzgerald, Benjamin Fitzgerald and Wynn Henson and has 2 great grandchildren, Gwen and Gunner Schlegel.  He is also survived by many nieces and nephews and other relatives.

Don is preceded in death by his wife, Guyneth and daughter, Dawn Marie Henson.

Don will be laid to rest with his wife and daughter in the Horner Cemetery. McDaniel Funeral Home will handle the arrangements. Graveside service will be held 1:00 P.M. Monday, March 15, 2021 at the Horner Cemetery in Hornersville, Missouri.

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donations be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital or Gary Sinise Foundation or the charity of your choice in his honor. He gave often to many charities throughout his life. He always wanted to help.
