Obituary

Don Carlos Sikes was born May 17, 1935, in Senath, Missouri and graduated from Holcomb High School in 1953.
Don was a hardworking man who showed his love by his deeds. He was dedicated to his family, everything he did was for them. He met his wife, Joyce Ellen Sikes, in October 1957 and they were married a month later in Alcorn County Mississippi. He was an ARMY veteran who served in Germany during the Korean War, alongside Elvis Presley. Don's work ethic was unmatched. He had a knack for problem solving and mechanical ingenuity. Having been a truck driver by trade, his handle was Driftwood and would often start his phone voice messages with "hey kid, this is BR-549 and I'm just checking in on you".
Don was a magnetic force, people gravitated towards him, and he accepted and loved them all. He was well known for his funny jokes and his deep love for Jesus. If you were around Don, you were guaranteed to laugh because he had a great story for you. He held family traditions as a priority. Holidays, birthday celebrations, and Sunday dinners together were very important to him. And you could count on him to suggest the menu: ribs, potato salad, and beans.
Don is preceded in death by his loving parents, Virgil & Avis, his daughter, Christine K. Sikes, and his wonderful wife, Joyce E. Sikes. He is survived by his daughter, Diane & husband Brett Godlevsky and their son, Nathan. His granddaughter Spring Bucior along with her husband David, and their 3 children Emma, Hannah, and Luke.  His sister Carol & her husband Danny Pigmon, and his brother, Verlin Sikes.
Daddy, we will miss you immensely. You were our "go-to" when life got rough, your voice would give us comfort and stability when we needed it. You were always someone we could count on, and although you were a straight shooter, you always got your point across without judgement, and always provided us with sound advice. You always made sure we made our decisions after thinking things through and always gave us 110%. You never stopped fighting for what's right, even when it was just you being charged an extra $0.30 for curly fries. Because of you, we have the hearts of a lion, an undying love for our family, and an insane work ethic. We thank you, daddy, for all the calls, wise words of advice, the love you gave us and the beautiful lives we've lived. We are better people because of you and will forever keep you in our hearts.
A viewing will be held for Don on Friday September 6, 2024, from 10-11AM with the service immediately after at Ely Baptist Church located at 1215 Church St. Kennett, Mo with burial services immediately following at Oak Ridge Cemetery, 1001 College Ave, Kennett, MO.
